Caradras are a band from Germany that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Schattenkönige" which was released by MDD Records.
A very powerful sounding bass guitar starts off the album along with some heavy yet melodic riffing a few seconds later. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the tremolo picking also gives the songs more of a raw feeling when it is utilized and a great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
The songs also add in a good mixture of 90's and early 2000's era influences while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly on a couple of songs along with some of the tracks also adding clean playing onto the album as well as the music also bringing in a more modern approach to an old school style, stringed instruments can also be heard on the closing track. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover War, Expressionism, Impressionism and Mythological themes.
In my opinion Caradras are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Im Nebel" "Prometheus" and "Im den Gruften". 8 out of 10.
