Negura Bunget are a band from Romania that h as had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a folk influenced, progressive and atmospheric form of pagan black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Zău" which will be released in November as a joint effort between Lupus Lounge and Prophecy Productions.
Folk instruments start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music at times. Whispers can also be heard briefly while some songs also add in a small amount of acoustic guitars along with one song also adding in a brief use of female vocals and when keyboards are utilized they also give the songs more of an atmospheric feeling.
Clean male pagan vocals are also a very huge part of the recording while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. All of the musical instruments on the album also have a very powerful sound to them along with some songs also adding in a small amount of spoken word parts.
Melodies are also added into a lot of the guitar riffing along with the songs also adding in a great amount of grim black metal screams. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the tracks also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
The music also has its progressive moments as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style along with the riffs also adding in a great amount of melody, growls can also be heard at times and the songs also brings in a cinematic atmosphere into some parts of the album and when percussion is utilized it also gives recording more of a ritualistic feeling. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Romanian and covers the paganism, myths, traditions and beautiful landscapes of Romania and Transylvania.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording form Negura Bunget and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Larba Fiarelor" and "Toaca Din Cer". 8/5 out of 10.
