Doodswens are a duo from the Netherlands that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Nactvrees" which will be released in December by Svart Records.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave tradition. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams and a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while field recordings, nature sounds and spoken word parts can be heard on some parts of the songs and interludes. A couple of the tracks also introduces clean playing onto the album along with the riffs also adding in a small amount of melody at times.
Doodswens plays a style of black metal that is very raw and old school in the 90's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Dutch and are a concept album based upon life, death and reaching enlightenment.
In my opinion Doodswens are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In Mijn Bloed" "Eindzicht" and "Lichtvrees". 8 out of 10.
