This is a review of a collaboration between U.S.A's Sutekh Hexen and Canada's Funerary call which shows the music bringing in a mixture of black metal, noise, drone, ambient, ritual, experimental and field recordings and the album will b e released in July as a joint effort between Sentient Ruin Laboratories and Cyclic Law and called "P.R.I.S.M".
Harsh noises and power electronics start off the album along with the vocals bringing in a mixture of grim black metal screams and demonic growls. Drones can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and the music also has its ritualistic moments.
Field recordings are also utilized quite a bit throughout the album while the synths also bring in elements of dark ambient. Clean playing can also be heard on a few tracks along with the music going into an experimental direction at times as well as a couple of songs also adding in a small amount of spoken word parts.
Electric guitar sounds are also added into some parts of the album along with each track also sounding very different from each other as well as the whole recording focusing more on a ritualistic direction. The production sounds very dark and lo-fi and the song themes focus on spectrums of deeper consciousness.
In my opinion this is a very great sounding album from Sutekh Hexen and Funerary Call and if you are a fan of black metal, noise, drone, ambient, experimental, ritual and field recordings, you should check out this collaboration. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Infernal Folly" "Void" and "Shores Of Purgatory". 8 out of 10.
