Coldrope are a band from Belarus that plays a very aggressive and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Révérence Devant La Mort" which was released by Dark East Productions.
Clean playing starts off the album while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Melodies can also be heard in some of the heavier riffing along with the vocals being mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams and the faster sections of the songs also add in a lot of blast b eats.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the songs show a lot of influences from the Swedish bands. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and clear vocals can also b e heard at times.
All of the musical instruments on the album also have a very powerful sound to them along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length as well as some female vocals and synths also being used briefly, clean playing also returns on some of the later tracks. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness, death, suicide and mythological themes.
In my opinion Coldrope are a very great sounding aggressive and melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Cellar" "In The Darkest Light" and "The Merciless Swamp". 8 out of 10.
