Disimperium are a band from Portland, Oregon that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a mixture of war, black, death metal and grindcore and this is a review of their 2023 album "Grand Insurgence Upon Despotic Altars" which will be released in July by Sentient Ruin Laboratories.
A very distorted sound starts off the album before going into a very raw and brutal war metal direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Elements of grindcore can also be heard in the faster sections of the songs while the vocals bring in a mixture of bestial growls and black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very chaotic style while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. A couple of the songs only add in a few seconds of slow or mid tempo sections and mostly focus on a fast and brutal direction, melodic riffing can also be heard briefly.
On this recording Disimperium remains true to the mixture of war, black, death metal and grindcore that they have established on previous releases. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover war and mysticism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Disimperium and if you are a fan of war, black, death metal and grindcore, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fortress Of Sulfuric Ritual" "Conclave Desecrated" "Sepulchral Mind Prison" and "Supreme bestial Subjugation". 8 out of 10.
