Varhara are a band from Russia that plays an atmospheric form of post black metal with elements of gothic and doom metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Voidflower" which will be released in July by These Hands Melt.
Clean playing starts off the album while the synths also add in touches of goth rock when they are utilized. Death metal growls are also utilized at times along with the vocals being also adding in a lot of black metal screams and elements of doom metal are also added into the slower sections of the songs.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Clear vocals are also added into certain sections of the recording along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic post metal style when they are utilized.
A couple of the tracks are also long and epic in length and throughout the album you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the music also having its atmospheric moments. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover spirituality themes.
In my opinion Varhara are a very great sounding atmospheric post black metal band and if you are a f an of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ветер" and "Титан". 8 out of 10.
