Miserable Abyss are a solo project from Portugal that plays an experimental mixture of black, doom, death metal, dark ambient and dungeon synth and this is a review of his 2023 album "Subaquatic Corporeal Rot" which was released on cassette by Bent Window Records.
Dungeon synth style keyboards start off the album while also adding in elements of dark ambient which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. the slower riffing also adds in a lot of doom metal influences while the vocals are a mixture of grim high pitched black emtal screams and death metal growls.
Dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffs while the songs also bring in a very lo-fi atmosphere. Spoken word parts and clear singing can also be heard in the background briefly along with the guitar leads being done in a very melodic style and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them as well as a small amount of blast beats also being utilized when the music speeds up.
Miserable Abyss plays a musical style that takes black, doom, death meta, experimental, dark ambient and dungeon synth and mixes them together to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and lo-fi while the lyrics cover darkness and torture themes.
In my opinion Miserable Abyss are a very great sounding experimental mixture of black, doom, death metal, dungeon synth and dark ambient and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Take The Knife" and "Churn". 8 out of 10.
