Cora's Heart are a solo project from Mexico that plays a mixture of depressive black metal and blackgaze and this is a review of her 2023 album "Anhelo" which will b e released on November 29th by Fiadh Productions.
Post rock style keyboards start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times while the music also brings in elements of shoegaze. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the music also capturing a very lo-fi atmosphere on some of the tracks.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the album more of a raw feeling. Clean vocals are also added on some of the tracks along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style and a great portion of the songs are also very long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also having its atmospheric moments as well as one of the songs also being a 'Lantlos' cover, clean playing can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Spanish and cover depression and melancholy themes.
In my opinion Cora's Heart are a very great sounding mixture of depressive black metal and blackgaze and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Anhelo" "These Nights Were Ours" "Destello" and "Sueons Eternos". 8 out of 10.
