Vare are a band from Estonia that plays a very epic and traditional form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 demo "Teekond Itta" which was released by Warhorn Records.
Clean playing starts off the demo before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling.
Most of the recording sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction while the solos and leads also add in a great amount of melody. All of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them along with one song also introducing acoustic guitars and clear vocals onto the recording.
Vare plays a style of black metal that is very epic and traditional sounding in the classic Eastern European style. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Estonian and cover uglier side of history from their home country and its past with wars.
In my opinion Vare are a very great sounding epic and traditional black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mahtra" and "Detsembrikuumus". 8 out of 10.
