Great Dragon are a solo project from Kingsport, Tennessee that plays a very raw and lo-fi form of black metal and this is a review of his 2024 ep "Aria of Sorrow" which will be released in April by Fiadh Productions.
Synths start off the ep which also add in touches of dungeon synth and ambient and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
At times the music also gets very depressive sounding while the faster sections of the songs also add in decent amount of blast beats along with most of the music sticking to either a slow or mid tempo direction
Great Dragon plays a style of black metal that is very raw, slow, depressive, lo-fi and synth orientated. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover vampirism and darkness themes.
In my opinion Great Dragon are a very great sounding raw and lo-fi black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sanguine Initiation" and "Nocturnal Rites". 8 out of 10.
