Maurda are a duo from Germany that plays a bestial mixture of war, depressive black and death metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "Cultus Brachypter" which will b e re-issued on February 23, 2024 by Sentient Ruin Laboratories.
Bass guitar leads start off the ep before going into a very fast, r aw and brutal war metal direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are a mixture of bestial growls and black metal screams while melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while clear vocals can also be heard briefly. Elements of depressive black metal can also be heard at times in both the riffing and vocals and one of the tracks also adds in a brief use of synths before returning back to a brutal direction and the solos and leads are also done in a very chaotic style.
Maurda plays a musical style that takes war and bestial black/death metal and mixes it with depressive black metal to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover isolation and alienation themes..
In my opinion Maurda are a very great sounding bestial mixture of war, depressive black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cultus Brachypter" "Sporensonne". 8 out of 10.
