Anāʻ Anā are a band from Belgium that plays a very old school form of black metal and this is a review of their album "Aura of Blood" which will be released in 2025 by Darkness Within.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album along with some grim sounding black metal screams a few seconds later. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the recording is very heavily rooted in the 90's era.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain more true to an old school style along with the riffs also adding in a small amount of melody at times as well as a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length, one song is also an instrumental and the whole album also sticks to a heavier direction.
Anāʻ Anā plays a style of black metal that is very heavily rooted in the old school 90's second wave tradition. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness themes.
In my opinion Anāʻ Anā are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Aura of Blood" and "Fragments Of The Flame". 8 out of 10.
