Harm Wulf are a band from Germany that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2016 album "Endzeitnachte".
Acoustic guitars start off the album and a few seconds later the music goes into a very fast and raw black metal direction along with some blast beats, tremolo picking and grim screams and the music also goes back to the 90's second wave style while also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they bring in a very melodic style to the recording and some songs also show them mixing in acoustic guitars in with the heavier parts and there are also some instrumental interludes along with some nature sounds while the main focus remains more on a raw style of black metal..
Some of the screams have a depressive edge to them and melodies can be heard in some of the guitar riffing as the album progresses and there is also a brief use of guitar leads while the outro brings in ambient style synths and they close the album with a cover of Dark Fury's "Young Blood" which also uses a small amount of spoken word parts.
Harm Wulf plays a style of black metal that is very raw in the more 90's underground European tradition while also having a nature orientated atmosphere, the production sounds very dark, raw and old school while the lyrics are written in German and cover misanthropic, war and mythological themes.
In my opinion Harm Wulf are a very great sounding raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gotterdmerung" "Endzeitnachte" "Sintbrand" and "Young Blood". 8 out of 10.
