Benthik Zone are a band from Portugal that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2016 album "Alienum A Daemonum Inferni Squali".
Clean guitars and experimental sounds start off the album along with some ambient elements and didgeridoo's are also utilized at times which also gives the recording an ethnic feeling and spoken word parts can also be heard at times and on the second track the music goes into more of a heavy and atmospheric direction.
Grim black metal vocals can be heard quite a bit throughout the recording while the synths give the music a very atmospheric sound along with most of the tracks being very long and epic in length and when the music speeds up a great amount of programmed blast beats can be heard and the songs also bring in a great amount of tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
At times the riffs can also be very melodic while some of the songs also add in some meditative elements along with some tracks also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some tracks also mix both the clean and heavy parts together and there is also a brief use of acoustic guitars.
Benthik Zone plays a style of black metal that is very atmospheric and ambient sounding while also being very meditative and experimental at times, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English, French, German and Portuguese and have a concept to them based upon the ocean and its creature while also displaying the more alien and demonic side of underwater creatures.
In my opinion Benthik Zone are a very great sounding atmospheric and experimental, ambient black metal band and if you are looking for something very original, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Chimaera Monstrosa" and "Megachasma Pelagios". 8 out of 10.
