Mort aux Gueux are a band from Quebec, Canada that plays a very raw form of black metal with elements of crust and this is a review of their self released 2016 ep "Vaurien".
A very fast, raw and lo-fi black metal sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of tremolo picking, blast beats and grim screams and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while the solos and leads also stick to a very raw and chaotic style of the genre.
After awhile the songs start bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave style and the elements of crust that they bring into their musical style gives the songs ore of a modern day feeling and they also bring in a brief classical guitar instrumental before closing the ep with another heavy track.
Mort aux Gueux plays a style of black metal that is very raw and brutal in the old school style while also mixing it in with a touch of crust to create a style of their own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover sorrow, pagan rites, desolation and no future themes.
In my opinion Mort aux Gueux are a very great sounding raw black metal band with a touch of crust and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Vaurien" and "L' Heritage". 8 out of 10.
