Horrenda are a band from Ireland that plays a pagan form of depressive black metal and this is a review of their self released 2016 ep "Neronian Times".
A melodic guitar leads along with drum beats start off the ep before adding in high pitched depressive black metal screams and the riffing also uses a great amount of dark sounding melodies and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats can be heard and the riffs also use a great amount of tremolo picking.
Acoustic guitars can be heard in certain sections of the recording along with a great amount of spoken word parts and when guitar solos are utilized they are done mostly in a raw and melodic fashion and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while also mixing in a great amount of rawness.
Horrenda plays a style of black metal that is very raw and depressive and also bring in more of a guitar driven sound than most bands of this genre, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Irish Paganism, History and Politics.
In my opinion Horrenda are a very great sounding depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Neronian Times" and "Brathadoir". 8 out of 10.
