Hungry Like Rakovitz are a band from Italy that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of black metal, sludge, crust and grindcore and this is a review of their self released 2016 album "Nevermind The Light".
Atmospheric drones start off the album and after the intro the music starts going into a heavier direction along with some growling vocals while high pitched screams are also used at times and the slow riffs are done in more of a sludge fashion and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
When solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic fashion and when the music speeds up elements of raw black metal and grindcore can be heard and the riffs also use a decent amount of melody while the fast riffs also use a decent amount of tremolo picking and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some songs also bring in a small amount of samples and atmospheric synths are utilized on the last track.
Hungry Like Rakovitz creates another recording that takes raw black metal, brutal grindcore and mixes them in with sludge to create a style that stands out, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover darkness and paganism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Hungry Like Rakovitz and if you are a fan of black metal, sludge, and grindcore, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Under A Wolf Skin We Lurk" "With Death In Our Hearts" "Paganism Terrorism ( Obscuritate III)" and "Bad Rune Rising". 8 out of 10.
