Sojourner are an international band with members from New Zealand and Sweden that plays a very epic and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Empires Of Ash" which was released by Avantgarde Music.
Nature sounds and flutes start off the album and after a few seconds black metal screams and fast tremolo picking are added onto the recording along with some blast beats that gives the music a raw feeling and they also mix the flutes in with the heavier parts while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs also bring in a decent amount of synths and pianos while also mixing in a more modern atmospheric black metal style and there is also a brief use of female vocals on some of the songs and there is also acoustic guitars being added onto one of the tracks and they bring in elements of folk music onto the recording.
Sojourner plays a style of black metal that is very atmospheric and epic bringing in a modern style while also mixing in some acoustic guitars and pianos along with flutes to create a recording that really stands out,, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover nature and fantasy themes.
In my opinion Sojourner are a very great sounding epic and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Bound By Blood" "The Pale Host" and "Empires Of Ash". 8 out of 10.
