III are a solo project from Italy that plays a mixture of black metal, lo-fi, noise and ambient and this is a review of his self released 2016 album "Lines & Lands".
Ambient soundscapes start off the album and they give the music more of an atmospheric feeling and after the intro acoustic guitars and nature sounds are added onto the recording and after awhile it goes into a very fast and raw black metal direction that utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats.
When vocals are added onto the recording they are high pitched black metal screams and the songs go for more of a modern take on the genre and after awhile the songs start bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and depressive melodies can also be heard in the music at times.
A couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length and as the album progresses elements of harsh noise and drone are added onto the recording and a few of the tracks are instrumental while some songs also bring in a small amount of clean playing along with some traces of post rock while acoustic guitars also make a return at times and the album closes with an ambient track.
III plays a musical style that takes a raw and atmospheric style of black metal and mixes it with ambient, noise and drone along with some touches of post and progressive rock to create a style of his own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover nature and sorrow themes.
In my opinion III are a very great sounding mixture of black metal, lo-fi, noise and ambient and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Line I" and "Line II". 8 out of 10.
