Deadspace are a band from Australia that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very depressive and ambient form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2016 ep "Gravity".
A very distorted yet melodic guitar lead starts off the ep and the riffs also use a great amount of melody and after awhile the music starts getting more heavy as well as introducing high pitched yet grim, depressive black metal screams onto the recording and clean singing can also be heard at times.
Elements of post metal, melodic death, ambient and depressive rock can be heard at times along with the music also adding in atmospheric touches and keyboards can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while some songs also bring in clean guitars and there is also a brief use of female vocals.
All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw black metal feeling and all of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and spoken word samples are added onto the last track.
Deadspace creates a recording that remains true to the depressive black metal style of previous releases while also adding in more post and depressive rock elements to take their sound to another level, the production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover depression and suicide themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Deadspace and if you are a fan of depressive and post black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Life" and "Rebirth". 8 out of 10.
