Cardinal are a band from Bahamas, North Carolina that plays a mixture of experimental, lo-fi, atmospheric, psych black metal and noise and this is a review of their 2016 album "Awiergedon" which was released by NRAE RECORDINGS.
Harsh noises start off the album along with soem avant garde and experimental elements and clean guitars along with some acoustics can be heard at times while they are done in a more primitive manner and after awhile grim black metal screams make their presence known on the recording and the songs also utilize a great amount of static.
A great amount of power electronics and psychedelic rock influences can be heard throughout the recording and the vocals also get very demonic at times and the clean guitars also try to bring in the rawness of black metal without the heaviness and distortion while some tracks sees the music get heavier and add in more tremolo picking and a great portion of the tracks are very short in length and most of the tracks bring in a lo-fi atmosphere and a great amount of diversity can be heard throughout the recording and some songs are also all instrumental.
Cardinal plays a musical style that takes black metal, psychedelia, experimental and noise and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover Occultism and Dark themes.
In my opinion Cardinal are a very great sounding mixture of experimental, lo-fi, atmospheric, psych black metal and noise and if you are looking for something different and original, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Edsceaftum" "Cascading Will" "Cryptograms Of Desecreation" and "Ethereal Occultation Of The Nine Moons". 8 out of 10.
