Trauer are a band from Germany that plays a very raw, atmospheric, and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "A Walk Into the Twilight" which was released as a joint effort between Nihilistiche KlangKunst and War Against Yourself Records.
Atmospheric sounding keyboards start off the album and after awhile the music goes into a heavier direction where you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and the guitar leads are done in a very melodic style and when focuses are finally brought onto the recording the are mostly grim with a touch of melody.
Keyboards also mix in with the heavier sections of the songs and clean singing is also used at times while also mixing in a great amount of grim black metal screams and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the riffing also gets very melodic at times and some songs also bring in a small amount of acoustic guitars and the songs also bring in a decent amount of diversity.
Trauer plays a musical style that takes the atmospheric, raw and depressive sides of black metal and mixes them together along with both old school and modern influences to create something very different, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover suicide, resignation and Svarthem themes.
In my opinion Trauer are a very great sounding raw, atmospheric, melodic and depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Invocation Of The Parasites" "Procession In The Fog" and "Ending At The Ground". 8 out of 10.
