Lord Of Horns are a solo project from New Jersey that has recently been featured in this zine and plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2022 album "The Forest Of Dusk" which will be released on July 11th.
Acoustic guitars and keyboards start off the album along with a brief use of spoken word parts before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music is also heavily rooted in the 90's style. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the keyboard also mixing in with the heavier sections of the music on some of the tracks.
When guitar leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and as the album progresses spoken word parts and acoustic guitars also make a brief return along with some of the tracks also being long and epic in length. The production sounds very dark and r aw while t he lyrics cover dark fantasy and horror themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album frim Lord Of Horns and if you are a fan of atmospheric old school black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nightmare Castle" "Witch Of The Wood" "Through The Woods" and "Nocturnal Crusade". 8 out of 10.
