Steingrab are a solo project from Germany that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording goes for more of an atmospheric, depressive and progressive style of black metal and this is a review of his 2022 album "Fluch der Ruholosigkett" which will be released in August in Astral Nightmare Records.
Classical guitars start off the album before going into a heavier direction while melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing. Vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams along with some songs also adding in clear singing and the music also has its atmospheric moments.
Spoken word parts can also be heard at times while the solos and leads are also done in a very atmospheric style. When acoustic guitars are utilized they also give the music more of a progressive feeling along with some of the songs also being very long and epic in length as well as one track also introducing keyboards onto the recording.
On this album Steingrab takes his music into more of a progressive style of atmospheric and depressive black metal which is also very different sounding from his previous release. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover introspection, solitude, despair and afterlife themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Steingrab and if you are a fan of atmospheric, depressive and progressive black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Froschteich" and "Ein Blumenbeet voll trister Farben". 8 out of 10.
