Weregoat are a band from Portland, Oregon that has been featured before in this zine and plays a bestial mixture of war, black and death metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "The Devil's Lust" which will be released in August as a joint effort between Iron Bonehead Productions and Parasitic Records.
Ritualistic soundscapes and spoken word parts start off the ep before going into a very fast and raw war metal direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and bestial growls.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very chaotic yet old school style while the music shows some influences of the 80's era South American black/death metal style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, horror movie samples and synths can also be heard briefly.
On this recording Weregoat remain true to the bestial mixture of war and black/death metal that was established on previous releases as well as adding in some more South American influences which also makes the songs stand out a lot more. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Lycanthropy, Sex and Violence themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Weregoat and if you are a fan of war and bestial black/death metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Tempter! Abuser! Satan Her master" and "The Devil's Lust". 8 out of 10.
