Northern Krig are a band from Norway that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2022 ep "Myrk Blóðfórn".
A very dark and ritualistic sound starts off the ep before going into a heavier direction while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with some deeper demonic voices and clear chants also being utilized briefly and synths can also be heard briefly.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. The music also adds in a good amount of old school influences as well as keeping it modern at the same time along with one song also adding in a brief use of spoken word parts, throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Northern Krig plays a style of black metal that is very raw and traditional sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Norwegian and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Northern Krig are a very great sounding raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Myrk Blóðfórn" and "Morgenrøde ". 8 out of 10.
