Helvellyn are a band from the United Kingdom that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "The Lore of The Cloaked Assembly" which will be released on November 4th by Purity Through Fire.
Dark nature sounds start off the album along with a brief use of angry spoken word parts before going into a heavier musical direction. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the album more of a r aw feeling.
Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with some melodies also being added inti the guitar riffing at times one of the tracks is also very long and epic in length and the whole recording also sticks to a heavier direction, medieval war samples can also be heard briefly.
Helvellyn plays a style of black metal t hat is very raw and old school in the 90's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism and Cumbrian History themes.
In my opinion Hellvellyn are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Lore Of The Cloaked Assembly" "Reign Upon Ruby Skies Of Noose" and "Unholy Village". 8 out of 10.
