Lycanthropic is a solo project from Singapore that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2022 compilation album "nocturne" which consists of material that he had written for his previous band Nocturnized between 2012 to 2021.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the compilation before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music also add in a great amount of 90's influences.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style while one track also adds in a brief use of spoken word parts. All of the musical instruments on the compilation also have a very powerful sound to them along with some of the songs also adding in some touches of death and thrash metal as well as the songs also adding in a good mixture of both mid tempo and fast sections, spoken word parts and synths can also be heard briefly.
Lycanthropic plays a style of black metal that is very raw and old school in the 90's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover apocalyptic, war, misanthropy, blasphemy, death and destruction themes.
In my opinion Lycanthrope are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDE D TRACKS INCLUDE "Chaos Deliverance" "Endless Hypnotic Dreams" "Dragged Into hell" and "Irreverent And Untamed". 8 out of 10.
