This is a review of a split album between Spain's Nakkiga and Germany's Arde which will be released on March 10th by Breath: Sun: Bone: Blood and we will start off the review with Nakkiga a band that plays a pagan form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with raw tremolo picking while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
Throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with one song also adding in a brief use of clean playing as well as most of their tracks being very long and epic in length, death metal growls and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover the birth and passage of time according to Basque Mythology.
In my opinion Nakkiga are a very great sounding pagan black metal band and if you are a fan of t his musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Errauautsak".
Next up is Arde a band that plays an atmospheric mixture of black metal and crust punk.
Their side of the split starts out with some atmospheric soundscapes and synths which also mix in with the heavier sections of the song at times. Their only track is also over 14 minutes in length while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the faster sections of the song also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and elements of crust punk are also utilized at times. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Basque Culture and Mythology.
In my opinion Arde are a very great sounding atmospheric mixture of black metal and crust punk and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric and pagan black metal. 8 out of 10.
