Fimbulvet are a solo project from Germany that plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Portale" which will be released in April as a joint effort between Trollzorn Records and Einheit Produktionen.
Acoustic guitars start off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. All of the instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams along with some death metal growls and clear pagan singing also being utilized at times.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the faster sections of the songs also ad d in a decent amount of blast beats. Acoustic guitars also return in certain sections of the recording along with the music also bringing in elements of dark metal at times and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, whispered vocals and spoken words can also be heard briefly.
Fimbulvet plays a style of pagan black metal that is very melodic and aggressive sounding as well as adding in elements of death and dark metal to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written i German and cover nature, battles and heathenism themes.
In my opinion Fimbulvet are a very great sounding pagan black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Schwelle zur Inbrunst" "Feuertod" "Wie ein Blatt im Wind" and "Patron des Lebens". 8 out of 10.
