Madison, Wisconsin's solo project Cicada The Burrower has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of a progressive and electronic form of post black metal and this is a review of her 2023 album "Blight Witch Regalia" which will be released in April by Blue Bedroom Records.
Synths and programmed beats start off the album which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times, All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and the songs mix in a lot of electronic music elements.
At times the music also gets very progressive and experimental sounding while some of the tracks is also instrumentals. Touches of post rock can also be heard at times along with one song also introducing growls and shouts onto the recording as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are finally introduced on the album.
On this recording Cicada The Burrower adds in more electronic elements into her progressive post black metal style that is a lot different from her previous releases. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover depression and personal struggles.
In my opinion this is another decent sounding recording from Cicada The Burrower and if you are a fan of progressive and electronic orientated black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Blight Witch Regalia" "Aires, You Ripped The Child Out Of Me" and "Crescent Moon Smile". 7 out of 10.
