Drakon are a band from Russia that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a very aggressive, atmospheric and melodic form of pagan black metal and this is a review of their 203 ep "High tales" which will be released in April by Sleaszy Rider Records.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the ep while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and the recording also shows an influence of the classic Swedish style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while clean playing can also be heard on a couple of songs. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a vey melodic style along with the music also having its atmospheric moments, pagan style back up shouts can also be heard briefly and the ep closes with some Unanimated and Enslaved covers.
On this recording Drakon remain true to the aggressive and melodic style of pagan black metal that they have established on previous releases. The production sounds very professional Russian, Nordic Paganism and War themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Darkon and if you are a fan of aggressive and melodic pagan black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Providence Of Russian Blood" and "God of War". 8 out of 10.
