Dusternis are a solo project from New Jersey that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of his self titled 2023 ep which was released by My Cult.
Dark sounding synths start off the ep before going into a very fast and r aw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music also captures a very lo-fi atmosphere at times and both of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while touches of harsh noise can also be heard in certain sections of t he recording. The music also shows an influence of the classic USBM style along with the second track also adding in a brief use of clean playing and a small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing underneath the harshness, synths can also be heard towards the end.
Dusternis plays a style of black metal that is very raw and lo-fi sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover future and past themes.
In my opinion Dusternis are a very great sounding raw lo-fi black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Foulest Futures". 8 out of 10.
