Hrizg are a band from Spain that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays an old school form of black metal with elements of death metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "Damnatio Memoriae" which was released by Morbid Shrine Productions.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing as well as the music also being very heavily rooted in the old school era with a more modern take.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while a couple of tracks are also very long and epic in length. Clean playing and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly along with some death metal growls also being utilized at times, synths are also added into certain sections of the album and some songs also add in a small amount of melodic guitar solos and leads.
On this recording Hrizg plays a style of black metal that is very aggressive and traditional sounding as well as adding in a touch of death metal to create a very heavy album. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark, philosophical, misanthropic, occult and anti religion themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Hrizg and if you are a fan of aggressive and traditional black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pilgrim God" "Upon Your Ashes" and "The Lonely Raven". 8 out of 10.
