Burial Heist are a duo from Belgium that plays a mixture of black metal, oi, post punk and neofolk and this is a review of their 2024 demo "A Flight Of Night Birds" which will be released on December 21st by Haunted By III Angels.
Neofolk style clean playing starts off the demo along with some angry sounding black metal screams a few seconds later. Some of the guitar riffing also captures a 90's European vibe while the music also captures the more raw side of post punk and oi with the semi heavier sections of the recordings.
Melodies can also be heard at times while the guitar leads are also done in a very melodic style along with the drum beats also giving the songs more of a tribal and ritualistic atmosphere and the whole recording also sticks to a more of a slow or mid direction, when guitar leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and one song also adds in a brief use of clean vocals as well as some spoken word parts being added on the closing song.
Burial Heist plays a musical style that takes black metal, oi, post punk and neofolk to create something very different. The production sounds very dark and lo-fi while the lyrics cover death and nature themes.
In my opinion Burial Heist are a very great sounding mixture of black metal, oi, post punk and neofolk and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Destroyer" and "Heirs To The Earth". 8 out of 10.
