Patriarkh are a band from Poland that plays an arcane form of black metal and this is a review of their album "ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ" which will be released in 2025 by Napalm Records.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album along with some folk instruments and choirs which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Spoken word parts can also be heard on a few tracks while the slower side of the recording also brings in elements of doom metal and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
Harsh vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Operatic female vocals are also added into certain sections of the recording along with the album also having its symphonic moments and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
When guitar solos and leads are finally utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with some of the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length, clean playing can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Old Russian/Old Church Slavonic and Polish and cover ancient liturgical texts.
In my opinion Patriarkh are a very great sounding arcane black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Wierszalin II" "Wierszalin V" and "Wierzzalin VIII". 8 out of 10.
