In Corpore Mortis are a band from Italy that plays an old school from of black metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "Umbrae Ignis" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath Records and Wine And Fog Productions.
Dark soundscapes start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams mixed in with a few growls. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing and all of the instruments also have a very powerful sound to t hem.
Most of the music is very heavily rooted in the mid 90's era of the genre while a great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style along with the album also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Synths can also be heard on a few songs along with one track also adding in a brief use of spoken words, clear singing can also be heard briefly as well as one song also adding in a small amount of clean playing, the album also has its atmospheric moments and they also bring in an instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness, misanthropy, human extinction, occultism and black metal themes.
In my opinion In Corpore Mortis are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Defiling Life's Sacrality" "Igneous Currents Pervade The Aethyr" and "Exsanguinating The Hemispheres - Etsbah Elohim". 8 out of 10.
