Shrine Ov Absurd are a solo project from Cuba that plays a very raw and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 album "Monotony" which will be released on April 17th by Godz Of War Productions.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams while all of the tracks are very long and epic in length as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
The songs also add in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while melodies are also added into some of the riffing. Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly on a couple of songs along with the music also adding in a decent amount of old school influences but keeping it modern at the same time as well as adding in a brief use of melodic guitar leads and as the album progresses a brief use of clean playing can also be heard.
Shrine Ov Absurd plays a style of black metal that is very raw, melodic and traditional sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Anti Religion, Darkness and hatred themes.
In my opinion Shrine Ov Absurd are a very great sounding raw and melodic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I" and "V". 8 out of 10.
