Urluk Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

"M.": this project was born in 2020 from my mind and that of "U." and aims to combine black metal and doom metal sounds in a mixture that  we personally defined as "Black Doom Melancholic Metal".

2.So far you have released an ep and a full length, musically how do they both differ from each other?

"M.": The first difference that jumps to the ear is certainly the use of the bass that in the previous debut ep, for stylistic choice, we hadn't put. Not only in "More" the bass is present but it has played an important role as much as the other instruments. Another difference  that certainly stands out is the production that here is much better, we have tried to pay attention to every single detail and we are very satisfied with the final result. For the rest "More" is nothing more than the natural continuation and evolution of our debut ep "Loss", both in terms of music and lyrics. As a last note I can tell you that we have also included clean vocals that have given more depth and pathos to our new work.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

"U" The lyrical path faced for this album is the natural continuation of our previous work. I wanted to work more in introspection, reasoning on the feeling of melancholy. It is a chronic feeling, which becomes almost a necessity, and which remains within us for life. As a result, I thought: what remains MORE strong after the LOSS? The answer is right in the title: Melancholy Only REmains : MORE

4.I know that the bands name means 'owl', how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?

"U"    The name of the band means "tawny owl" in the local dialect of our area. It is a term that is used to call a person an idiot, because usually the tawny owl being a nocturnal bird of prey, when it sees the light it takes on an expression of dismay. The idea of tying ourselves to a local animal, which gets annoyed with light because its ideal habitat is darkness, has linked us a lot to the spirit of the band. Moreover, I found calling us an idiot a direct thing, which is also linked to the famous novel by Dostoevskij where, like the latter, all our work is an analysis of good and evil, madness and reason.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

"M.": The artwork represents a dark, sad and bleak imagery. We wanted an old-fashioned cover that mirrored the music recorded on the album; The listener will be able to reunite with it when listening to the record. We would like to point out that the cover photo and the other photos that are present in the booklet were taken by us and represent the limbo in which we live daily.

6.Currentyl there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain ad duo?

"M.": The band was born with only two elements and at the moment we do not intend to integrate other new members into it. It is true that managing the band in only two members is much more tiring but together "U." and I work very well and know immediately when to review our personal choices and ideas for the sake of URUK. Too many members mean too many compromises that we are not prepared to make for the time being.

7.The new album was released on 'Ramparts Productions', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

"U"  Remparts production is a small label French very attentive to the multiple declinations of black metal.

Our collaboration began a few weeks ago, but immediately a beautiful synergy and an excellent relationship of trust were created.

We were very lucky to find us, because we received from him, seriousness, reliability and a lot of professionalism.

Values not really discounted in this environment

8.Are there any plans for live shows in the future or is this strictly a studio project?

"M.": at the moment there are no plans for live dates, it is not our priority to play to sell 10 more copies.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and doom metal?

"M.": we are very satisfied with the reception that "More" is receiving from the very beginning. The responses of the critics for now are very      positive and somehow repay us for the blood we shed to record this new album.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

"M.": In some respects "More" has already been a step forward compared to "Loss", although both maintain a musical and lyrical thread that keeps them closely linked to each other. We dared new solutions in this new work and surely in the future we could dare even more. Staying to play the exact same things with the same solutions to keep the fanbase tight does not interest us. An idea could be to give even more space to clean voices but it is still too early to talk about it with confidence: we will evaluate in the composition phase. Anyway we want to look forward and satisfy our soul.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

"M.": definitely as far as I'm concerned the extreme metal of the  80's and 90's mold that I grew up with. It will then be the listener to make the combinations he deems most appropriate. The important thing for us is to have given a personal approach to what we do. The music I listen to nowadays are always and only old records, now very rarely buy or listen to new music.

"U": As far as I'm concerned, my influences also come from 90s black metal like Strid, Darkthrone, Kvist ecc.. but also Velvet Underground, Joy Division and Leonard Cohen as huge personal influences of mine.

Lately I am quite attentive to new realities, and I must say that an artist like Revenant Marquis is liking me so much and I find it stimulating as a personal creative inspiration
