Australia's Deadspace has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for an avant garde, dissonant and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Unveiling The Palest Truth" which will b e released on September 22nd by Immortal Frost Productions.
A very dark, heavy and atmospheric sound starts off the album while synths can also be heard briefly. Spoken word parts are also added on a couple of the tracks along with the riffing also adding in some dissonant structures as well as the music also having its avant garde moments and the vocals are mostly depressive black metal screams.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. The recording also has its atmospheric moments along with the tracks also bringing in a more different style than previous releases and the ep is very heavily rooted in the modern era of the genre, clear vocals are also added on the closing track.
On this recording Deadspace brings in more of a violent, dissonant, avant garde and modern sound to their depressive style of black metal. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover a post apocalyptic world governed by corporate greed and socio-political disconnect with some inspirations from occult narratives and English Literature.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Deadspace and if you are a fan of avant garde, dissonant and depressive black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Within His Wretched Truth" and "Unveiling The Palest Truth". 8 out of 10.
