Iceland's Fortid has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of viking, pagan black, death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Narkissos" which will b e released on September 25th by Lupus Lounge.
A very fast, aggressive and melodic sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and the solos and leads also add in a lot of melody.
When tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Acoustic guitars are also added on some of the tracks along with some of the tracks also being very long and epic in length.
A couple of tracks also adds clear pagan vocals onto the recording along with some synths also being added into certain sections of the recording. At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding and elements of death, thrash and heavy metal are added on some songs. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Icelandic and cover Norse paganism with some inspirations from Greek Mythology.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Fortid and if you are a fan of viking, pagan black, death, thrash or traditional metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Drottnari" "Thusund þthaninga smidur" "Illt skal med illu gjalda" and "Vid daudans dyr". 8 out of 10.
