Norway/Italy's Sicut Glacies has returned with a new recording which shows the music moving away from t he atmospheric style of black metal from previous releases and going for a mixture of ambient, dungeon synth and atmospheric folk music with black metal vocals and this is a review of their 2023 ep "Kalde Minner Fra Fortriden" which will be released in October by ATMF.
Folk music style acoustic guitars and synths start off the ep which also brings in elements of ambient and dungeon synth while also adding in a variety of many different sounding keys. At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding and grim black metal screams can also be heard briefly.
All of t he tracks are also very long and epic in length while each song also brings in a very different sound. A lot of the music also gets the atmosphere of 90's era black metal and dungeon synth along with the acoustic guitars also adding in a good mixture of full chords and finger picking, spoken word parts are also added on t he closing track.
On this recording Sicut Glacies takes ambient, dungeon synth and atmospheric folk music and mixes it with black metal vocals to create something very different from previous releases. The production sound s very dark while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and Norwegian and cover nature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sicut Glacies and if you are a fan of black metal, ambient, dungeon synth and atmospheric folk music, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Mighty Mountains -Witness To Time". 8 out of 10.
