Dodenbezweerder are a duo from the Netherlands that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw and experimental mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2024 ep "Als De Hemel Zich Vult Met Apocalyptisch Kopergeschal" which will be released in February by Improved Sequence.
Dark soundscapes and synths start off the album which also add in a touch of ambient while the vocals are mostly grim y et high pitched sounding black metal screams. On the second track the music goes into a heavier direction along with the slower sections of the songs also bringing in elements of doom metal.
At times the music also gets very experimental sounding while growls are also utilized in certain sections of the album. All of the tracks are also improved while a couple of songs also adds in a brief use of spoken word parts and when the music finally speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling, each song also sounds very different from each other.
On this recording Dodenbezweerder takes a raw form of black metal and mixes it with doom metal and experimental to create a very different sounding album. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover death themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Dodenbezweerder and if you are a fan of raw and experimental black and doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pierced With Seven Swords Made From Angel Bone" and "Opening Of The Gates". 8 out of 10.
