Hasturian Vigil are a duo from Ireland that plays a very epic and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "Unveiling The Brac'thal" which will be released in February by Invictus Productions.
Water sounds and dark soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier direction while most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. Solos and leads are done more of a melodic traditional metal style along with the songs also adding in a lot of 80's and 90's influences and the tracks also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the album more of a raw feeling along with the synths also adding in more of a horror orientated atmosphere when they are utilized. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover cosmic horror themes inspired by the writings of H.P Lovecraft, Arthur Machen, Lord Dunsay and W.B Yeats.
In my opinion Hasturian Vigil are a very great sounding epic and old school black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ikaath The Seven Horned" and "Velvet Painting Glaze". 8/5 out of 10.
