Dismemberment Interview

Our vocalist/guitar Luke Shively answered all the questions.

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?
DISMEMBERMENT is a four piece metal band from Laurelville, Ohio. In 2011 we released our first EP, 'The Condemned' and March of this year we released our newest EP, 'Denied Salvation'. Both are available online through our Bandcamp page and physically through our online merch store.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?
Each of us bring in alot of different influences. We define it, Technically Progressive Blackened Death Thrash n' Roll (haha), but basically Blackened Thrash.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

For the most part, I've written the lyrics for our songs. I just try to make a story into each one. We've got everything from war to aliens. (haha)

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

When the band started we were set on playing death metal and we just wanted a straightforward name. The death metal didn't stick, but the name did.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

I would have to say playing with Mayhem was the most mind blowing for me personally, and of course playing with our Ohio brothers in Skeletonwitch is always awesome. As for stage performance: Black Thrash Assault!

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?

Not as of yet. We've been doing our best to get out of state but we've mainly been playing in and around Central and Southern Ohio.

7. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label and if so what kind of label do you feel that would be a perfect fit for your music?
Yes, we are currently unsigned. We're open to labels but we also know times are hard in the industry. We're basically looking for a label that supports the music and bands that actually go out and work hard at what they do. If I had to say names, off the bat it'd be Prosthetic or Nuclear Blast. Or even smaller but hugely supportive labels like Tankcrimes.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of extreme metal?

Overall it's been pretty good for both our EP's. 'Cryptic Isolation' was actually featured on a Metal Hammer compilation disc which still blows my mind. We've even had a few reviews from past shows that spoke pretty well of us. It's awesome getting all the feedback, good or bad.

9. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?

Oh, there are tons of projects, but all within the band. There's our experimental grindcore band, Autoerotic Asphyxiation and our parody death metal project, Diahrrea-Cide.

10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

We want to really capture an atmosphere in the music. That sounds kind of cheesy, but listen to Death's 'Symbolic' album all the way through and you'll know exactly what I mean. We want to expand musically and mesh other genres and styles we are fans of, into our own music.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

All the NWOBHM bands of course, Kreator, Coroner, Megadeth. A lot of black metal like Immortal and Dissection. The list could go on and on. I've been listening to the new Aura Noir and Absu albums pretty heavily. The new Skeletonwitch, Revocation, and Cattle Decapitation albums are amazing. And of course, the new Cannibal Corpse.

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Here lately the Nintendo 64 in our practice space has been occupying my time.

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
I just wanna say thanks for taking the time to check us out and interview us. If you're in the Columbus area June 7th come catch us at the Alrosa Villa with Marduk and 1349! STAY METAL!
