Thorns are a band from Norway that plays a very atmospheric and experimental form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2001 album which was released by Moonfog Productions.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast playing with a great amount of blast beats being thrown into the music, while the synths sound effects bring a very experimental, ambient and avant garde sound to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast Norwegian style black metal riffs that utilize a great amount of talent, skill and technical parts with some dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing as well as some industrial influences and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams with some spoken word parts, while the lyrics cover Astrology, Space, Humanity, and Divinity, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound to it with a mixture of long and epic in length songs as well as some shorter ones.
In my opinion Thorns are a very great sounding hybrid and Norwegian black Metal, avant garde and industrial and if you are a fan of this style of music, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Existence" "Stellar Master Elite" and "Underneath The Universe Part 2". RECOMMENDED BUY.
