Soulgrind where a band from Finland that played a very atmospheric form of pagan black/dark metal and this is a review of their 1999 album "Kalma" which was released by Holy Records.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being thrown into the music at times, while the keyboards bring a very dark and atmospheric sound to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black/dark metal riffs that also utilize influences from thrash, death, and doom metal together to create a sound of their own along with some dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing as well as some soft and clean playing, while the lead guitars when they are utilized are very melodic sounding guitar solos and leads.
Vocals range from grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams as well as a great amount of clean singing female vocals as well as a brief use of demonic sounding spoken word parts as well as some deep death metal growls, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Finnish and English with themes that cover Paganism and Darkness, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound to it.
In my opinion Soulgrind where a very great sounding atmospheric, pagan black/dark metal band and if you are a fan of this style of music, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Kalma" "Rememberance Through Deep Red Masquerade" "Seed (A Sermon In Stone)" and "Pagan Pride". RECOMMENDED BUY.
