Belgium's Cult Of Erinyes have returned with a new recording which continues the ritualistic style of black metal from previous releases and this is a review of their 2019 album "Æstivation" which will be released on December 21st by Amor Fati.
Distorted yet atmospheric soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier direction. Vocals are mostly deep yet angry sounding black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the tracks also being very long and epic in length.
At times the music also gets very ritualistic sounding as well as some clean playing also being added into some parts of the recording. Clear vocals are also added onto some of the tracks along with some spoken word parts also being used quite a bit throughout the album, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very chaotic style and some songs also bring in elements of ambient. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover philosophy, history and human nature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Cult of Erinyes and if you are a fan of ritualistic black metal, you should check out t his album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Corruption" and "Nihil Sacram Est". 8 out of 10.
