Perdition Hearse where a band from Norway that was a part of the early Norwegian black metal scene in the late 80's and 90's and played an earlier second wave style and this is a review of their 2019 compilation album "Mala Fide" which consists of their earlier demos which was released on December 31st by Nuclear War Now! Productions.
Classical guitars start off the compilation along with a brief use of spoken word parts and synths before going into a heavier direction. Some of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams and some first wave, death and thrash metal elements can be heard in the guitar riffing.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic style while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. Synths and deep ritualistic vocals are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the music at times as well as the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody.
Throughout the compilation you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Classical guitars also make a return on a later track as well as one song also introducing spoken word parts onto the compilation along with a later track also adding in a brief use of clean playing. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover mythology, perdition, death and anti religion themes.
In my opinion Perdition Hearse where a very great sounding early Norwegian black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "My Ancient Gods Behind Them All" 'Cerberos Leads Us Through" and "Gloomy Rotten Skeleton". 8 out of 10.
